Jammu Kashmir Journalists Killed Since 1990
On the World Press Freedom Day, we present to you the list of journalists of Jammu Kashmir who laid their lives in the line of duty. Since 1990, as many as 19 journalists had been killed, the recent one being Shujaat Bukhari of leading newspaper Rising Kashmir. Let’s remember media workers & journalists who were killed in Jammu & Kashmir since 1990:

Ghulam Mohammad Lone
He was a freelance journalist. He was killed on August 29, 1994, when unidentified gunmen shot him several times outside his residence.
He was killed on September 10, 1995, in Srinagar. He worked as a photojournalist for ANI. He suffered multiple injuries after he received and opened the bomb-laden parcel. He died three years later.
Ghulam Rasool Shiekh
He was editor in chief of the then newspapers Rehnuma-e-Kashmir and Saffron Times. He was found dead on April 10, 1996.
Altaf Ahmed Faktoo
He worked as an anchor in Doordarshan TV. He was killed by unidentified gunmen on January 1, 1997.
A reporter with Doordarshan TV was killed by two men in Srinagar on March 16 1997

Parvaiz Mohammad Sultan
He was assassinated on 31 January 2003 by unknown gunmen outside Press Enclave in Srinagar. He was associated with an independent news service NAFA.
She was a freelance reporter and got assassinated on May 20, 2004, after a possible landmine exploded in Kupwara. She died on her way to the hospital.
Ashok was a photojournalist. He was killed on May 11, 2008 while covering LoC flare-up in Samba.
Javid Ahmad Mir
Javid Ahmad Mir was assassinated on August 13, 2008, by Security Forces while covering the protests in Srinagar.
The Editor of leading newspaper Rising Kashmir was killed at press enclave on June 14, 2008.
There are many more journalists who laid their lives but is not mentioned in the aforementioned list.
